In every job I’ve had, I’ve worked to make complex things clearer and easier for normal people to use. It’s inherent, it’s automatic, I can’t turn it off. I’ve been doing “user experience” my whole life, since before it was even a thing.
I reduce word count, cut out jargon, make syntax simpler, clarify process flows, remove clicks and steps, clean up designs, and do anything else I can to make things a little (or a lot) less complicated.
When people ask what I do for work, I tell them, “I make websites easier to use.” Without fail — every single time — they answer, “We need more people like you.” Yes, we do.
